Banned words

Block or flag responses that contain words you don't want.

Banned words checks every short and long text answer on your public forms before the response is saved. You need the Manage banned words permission.

Your list

Type a word or phrase and press Add (or Enter). Remove one with ×. Matching ignores upper and lower case, and sees through common disguises like full-width letters or invisible characters.

Turn on Also use the OurForms list to add OurForms's own list of common spam and abuse phrases. View list shows it.

What happens on a match

  • When matched: Block submission — the visitor is asked to remove words that aren't allowed. They aren't told which word.

  • When matched: Flag for review — the response is accepted and marked ⚑ on your Submissions tab, with the words it contained.

  • Match: Whole word — "ass" matches "ass" but not "class".

  • Match: Anywhere in text — "ass" also matches "class".

Try it

Type a sample answer into Try it to see whether it would be blocked or flagged.

Recent matches

The last 20 matches show the form, the question, the word and whether it was blocked or flagged. Only the word is kept — never what the visitor wrote. Matches are cleared after 90 days.
